The United Kingdom Accreditation Service is the sole national accreditation body recognized by government to assess, against internationally agreed standards, organizations that provide certification, testing, and inspection and calibration services.

Accreditation by UKAS demonstrates the competence, impartiality and performance capability of these evaluators. UKAS is a non-profit-distributing private company, limited by guarantee. UKAS is independent of Government but is appointed as the national accreditation body by Accreditation Regulations 2008 (SI No 4151/2008) and the EU Regulation (EC) 0284/2008 and operates under a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government through the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills.

UKAS is licensed by BIS to use and confer the national accreditation symbols (formerly national accreditation marks) which symbolize Government recognition of the accreditation process.

UKAS accreditation provides an assurance of the competence, impartiality and integrity of conformity assessment bodies. UKAS accredited certification, testing and calibration and inspection reduces the need for suppliers to be assessed by each of their customers. UKAS’ involvement in international groups provides for mutual recognition which further reduces the need for multiple assessments of suppliers and as a consequence helps to reduce barriers to trade. It is therefore BIS policy to recommend the use of UKAS accredited conformity assessment services whenever this is an option.

ANAB

The ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board plays an important role in ensuring the safety and quality of goods and services and in protecting the environment.

We accredit testing and calibration labs, inspection and certification bodies, reference material producers, and proficiency test providers. You wouldn’t want to be treated by a doctor who isn’t board certified in her specialty, or send your child to a college that isn’t accredited, would you? Like those accrediting bodies, we conduct audits to make sure our clients follow international standards and are competent to do their work.

Mission

The mission of the ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board is to be a leader in guiding the international development of accreditation processes that build confidence and value for stakeholders worldwide and providing high quality and reliable accreditation services with the most professional value-added services for customers and end users. Quality Policy

The ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board:

Is committed to being a value-added, competent, and cost-effective provider of accreditation of conformity assessment services to national and international standards with the highest integrity and in a timely manner.

Will advance international acceptance of conformity assessment by maintaining mutual recognition arrangements.

Will provide its customers the best accreditation and assessment services possible while helping its customers and other interested parties focus on achieving and providing value.
